Then, in that final scene before she goes to Craigh na Dun, they seem particularly relaxed and comfortable with one another -- which makes that kiss goodbye particularly heartbreaking given what happens next. It is not game changing like what they did with game of thrones, but for some reason this scene stuck after the revelation in the book. It doesn't help that she attracts the attention of an English garrison commander - a brutal, sociopathic, sadistic English captain who is none other than her husband's ancestor. As long as we had that, I had faith that everything would work out.
